nemour The interesting facts about the Nemours Mansion:
  • The Nemours  is a classical French mansion contains 105 rooms spread over five floors.
  • Mansion was designed by renowned architects, Carrère and Hastings, who also designed the New York Public Library, New York City’s Frick Mansion, and Whitehall, the Henry Flagler Museum in Palm Beach, Florida.
  • The building looks like a French château and the architectural style is Louis XVI.
  • There are original English and Russian gates are located next to the main house. The “Russian gate” is came from one of St Peteresburg palaces. This gate is decorated with Imperial Crown and Catherine the Great’s birth and death dates.
  • Nemours was created by Alfred I du Pont in 1909–1910 as a gift for his second wife,  Alicia.
  • Alfred I. was a member of the famous du Pont family and descendant of Pierre Samuel du Pont, who came to US from France during revolution. Pierre  was French writer, economist, and government official.
  • Actually the name “Nemours” is the district of  Paris. Pierre Samuel used this name  to distinguish himself from other du Ponts in the National Constituent Assembly during revolution.
