Tryon Palace is a reconstruction of the historical colonial royal governors' palace of the Province of North Carolina. During colonial period "palace" was a non-pejorative name for any public building of this type. It was reconstructed in the 1950s on the original site in the city of New Bern. Today it is a State Historic Site. The gardens are also well-renowned.
